At Sturgeonfest, individuals will be able to hand-release baby river sturgeons into the French Broad River. River sturgeon are Tennessee’s largest fresh water fish and they can live to be over 100. There is no charge to attend Sturgeonfest. Recommended items to bring include a picnic lunch, chairs, good shoes, hand sanitizer, $20 to buy the softest Sturgeonfest t-shirts yet! The Sturgeonfest is a partnership between the TVA, TCWN, US Fish and Wildlife Service, natural resource agencies, government, industry, scientists, and anglers in order to highlight the ecosystem approach to managing native fish and wildlife populations in Tennessee and to increase interest in restoring the sturgeon to higher levels of abundance.
