TVA Fish Rescue

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This just in from TVA:

Due to rising water temperatures, TVA will be moving fish from east of Dike 2 into the Emory River. Water temperatures east of Dike 2 are rising. As temperatures go up, dissolved oxygen goes down. These conditions cause stress to fish trapped in this body of water and could cause a fish kill. To prevent this, TVA will collect the fish by electroshocking, then will remove them and transport them to be released into the Emory River near the end of Lakeshore Drive. This process is not harmful to the fish; TVA uses electro-shocking to perform its sportfish surveys every year. The fish rescue will take most of the day to complete. The best place to view the move is on Swan Pond Circle Road just west of the intersection with Lakeshore Drive.

EPA discloses location of the 44 Hazardous coal ash sites

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I see the O administration finally wised up and realized that not disclosing the location of the 44 sites was a) going back on his campaign promise; b) causing consternation for everyone living in the shadow of a Kingston-style disaster; and c) downright silly to think that terrorists would be going after those sites. Tennessee didn’t make the list.  I wonder if it was on the list before December 22, 2008?

Knox County considers using Law Director as stormwater barrier

Monday, June 29th, 2009

We’ve been pushing for greater stormwater protection for low these many years.  You know you’ve arrived when the local satirist picks your issue to skewer.

Climate bill passes U.S. House of Representatives

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

A late Friday night vote ensured some kind of response to climate change. Some folks think it goes too far and some think it doesn’t go far enough. Time will tell. All Tennessee Dems voted for it.  All of Tennessee’s Reps voted against it. No surprise there.

Next stop U.S. Senate.

Man those phones:  we’ve got to get Corker and Alexander on this.  At least make them explain their votes.

Update on Climate Bill

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The climate bill just got a bunch of equity provisions. This is a good thing for poor minority communities that might have had to pay to offset pollution in their communities.  Some green jobs got thrown in too. Excellent!

The vote is still on in the House.  Be sure to call over and tell them to pass this bill!
