Director of Development and Communications
TCWN Description: TCWN organizes Tennesseans to claim our right to clean water and healthy communities by fostering civic engagement, building coalitions and advancing water policy.

This position reports to the Executive Director and is open until filled.
Location: This position resides in Knoxville, TN. Other locations in Tennessee may be considered.
Qualifications: 4+ years experience in non-profit fundraising and marketing and/or public relations.
Principle Functions: This position will manage current programs and coordinate future program priorities with the Executive Director, staff and Board of Directors.

Development
Utilize Moves Management™ to direct fundraising activities. Moves Management™ is the planning and implementation we use to create donor-centered initiatives that nurtures a relationship to a point of mutual agreement and benefit.
Goal: To create and implement a development strategy to raise the annual revenue target of $300,000 to $500,000 per year.
Major Donor Cultivation
- The Director of Development and Communications serves as the Moves Manager by:
- Identifying and researching potential major gift prospects
- Cultivating prospects to the organization
- Soliciting gifts
- Stewarding and thanking donors
- Managing the Board of Directors fundraising activities.
Membership Support.
- Coordinate direct mail fundraising to increase membership from 350 - 1,000 in 2008 then to 2,000 members in 2009
- Develop innovative methods to strengthen membership
- Manage membership database
- Participate in Community Shares
- Manage online giving
Foundation Coordination.
- Coordinates the creation and submission of foundation grants and reports and
- Oversees the work of the grant writer.
Event Coordination.
- Plans and executes all TCWN events including tabling at non-TCWN events.
Sponsorship Management
- Identify, cultivate, secure, and engage new and existing corporate donors
- Works with sponsorship consultant to create and implement a corporate donors sponsorship plan.
Communications and Marketing
Manages media relations
- Coordinate media events and releases, tracking and compiling TCWN coverage.
- Maintain relationships with media outlets
- Manage the submission of Letters to the Editor and Opinion Editorials and other news releases.
- Oversees design of outreach materials (website, brochures, newsletter)
Programmatic
General program knowledge needed to convey organization’s efforts and accomplishments to donors and foundations.
- Promote the organization through various means of outreach to empower Tennesseans to take action on clean water issues affecting their communities.
- Have a working knowledge of all projects and their status.
- Obtain, train and manage volunteers to assist with misc. tasks.
Skills Needed
This position requires one to be entrepreneurial, self-directed, strategic, quick to learn, and energetic team player.
- At least 4+ years of experience in fund development with a proven track record of:
- Achieving revenue targets of over $300,000 annually
- Providing excellent customer service to clients/donors
- Developing and implementing marketing and public relations campaigns
- Prospecting, cultivating, and managing new accounts/donors
- Planning and implementing events
- Salary range: $35 - 40K plus full benefits
